Feb 28th - Chatham (#11)

George and I set out from Cadboro Bay beach for a paddle out to Chatham. There was a bit of wind which increased during the paddle and a reasonable ebb through Baynes (note the track!). We had fun getting through the sluice. I think the wind was up to 15 knots by the time we finished.

Feb 22 - Oak Bay (#10)

At the drop of a hat, I joined the SISKA paddle that was leaving from caddy bay and we did a nice paddle out to Cadboro Point and then over to Oak Bay and back along the shore. 10 of us had a very nice paddle and the wind on the way was not too strong. I was paddling the Shadow and enjoyed having it out. There was some unusual “bumpy” water between cadboro point and Jemmy Jones and a suprising amount of swell (perhaps 3 feet) coming from the SE as we paddled over to Oak Bay. We stopped by to view the Hunter 19 (which I have now made an offer on!) and had lunch on the beach by the marina. The beach south of Turkey head was a bit surfy so we decided to go for the calm landing.

Feb 21- Oak Bay (#9)

I managed to get virtually the entire Jackson fleet of kayaks out today. Jack and Mary were visiting from Alberta and Monica and Seasonn joined us for a paddle to Oak Bay marina. We had the Passat, the Shadow, the Sirocco and a Feathercraft out and all performed well. I had not paddled the Passat in a while and it was good to “renew acquaintance”. We wended our way along the west shore of Caddy Bay to Cattle point and then went over to Mary Todd Island and then through the marina. I put up the large spirit sail on the Passat and it did a good job, getting us up over 10 kph. We stopped off by the yachct sales where I scoped out a 19 ft hunter sailboat that I am planning to buy… We had to fight a fairly solid head wind on the way home and we made it back after two hours of paddling.

Feb 15th - 10 Mile Point (#8)

I joined David Spittlehouse and several members of the VSKN group (Doug, David, Marg,Christie and Marvin) to paddle out of Telegraph Bay towards Cordova Bay. The wind was a stiff 10–15 knots out of the North and it was not looking suitable for a group paddle out of Telegraph Bay. David and the others decioded to launch in Cadboro Bay and I decided to launch at Telegraph and paddle/sail around and join them. We had a very nice paddle in sunshine and calm winds in the lee of 10 mile point. The paddle/sail down to Cadboro point was exhilarating and fast!

Feb 6-9 - skiing not paddling

I went up to Manning Park with a group of students from the school to do a winter camping and back country skiing trip. Conditions were good - we had plenty of snow and it was not too cold. The trip was basically up the Cambie Creek trail and then up Fat Dog Creek. 17 kms of skiing altogether.

Feb 1st - Caddy Bay (#7)

Simon and I went out for a short paddle around Cadboro bay – Flower Island, Skegness and back through the RVYC. I forgot the GPS so this is a manual track record…
